Foundation Maintenance Tips
Drainage and Watering
The main tip with foundation maintenance is to keep the soil under and around the foundation at a constant moisture condition. This is easily done with drainage and a watering program. The drainage prevents water from pooling near the foundation, which can cause the soil to become too wet. Adding moisture during dry weather to keep the soil from getting too dry can be accomplished with a sprinkler system.
Planting Beds
Planting flower or shrubbery beds edging your foundation can trap water. Make sure rainwater drains out of your beds by providing spaces between them and the foundation.
Additions & Renovations
Additions and renovations may upset the drainage from your foundation. Make certain that all drainage is properly maintained to keep water from pooling near the foundation of the home and the addition.
Plumbing
Undetected plumbing leaks can insert unnecessary water into the soil. If you suspect that your plumbing is leaking into the soil, have it tested and if necessary, repaired as soon as possible. Consult DeCap Construction to aid in determining if the leak affected the foundation.
